February 2008 saw the official launch of the latest feat in eco-design within Brighton’s up-and-coming ‘New England Quarter’. The International Study Centre is a five-storey collaboration of chic, practical design and energy efficient construction solutions. Housing education and administration facilities for 1000 students and up to 250 staff, the centre is also comprised of an additional 363 room student residential complex.

As main contractor, Balfour Beatty worked to deliver the £26.6m education facility to an 84 week programme for Study Group, global leaders in education and language opportunities for international students.

The development comprised the design and build of a dramatic, full height, central glass atrium, which acts as an architectural street to adjacent specialist teaching and administrative facilities, such as lecture theatres, examination halls, office and recreational space. The Centre boasts flagship status over five associated high specification education projects across Brighton & Hove and shall be a benchmark for future education sector projects for Brighton & Hove County Council.
