Opening its doors for the first time to students in September 2006 was the newly built Usworth Sixth Form College. Surrounded by mature trees and grassed areas, this new £7.5m sixth form college provides a light, bright learning environment for over 1,000 students between the ages of 16 and 19.

The three-storey building is fully equipped with modern classrooms and science laboratories, a two-storey Learning Resource Centre, a lecture theatre and social areas for the students. Externally, the building has a striking, modern appearance reflecting the high-tech nature of the studies undertaken there.

Dave Geddis, Site Manager at the City of Sunderland College said “We thoroughly enjoyed working with Balfour Beatty and formed an excellent relationship with ALL the team. They were very professional and finished the project six weeks early and came under budget. The interest from other organisations within the education sector has also been very positive. The completed building is fantastic – first class.”
