Project: Bassetlaw Schools PFI
Client: Nottinghamshire County Council Value: £129.0m Contract: PFI Duration: 169 weeks
The Bassetlaw Schools PFI project has transformed educational facilities in the Nottingham area. The project, the largest in England and Wales when it started, involved the rebuilding of five secondary schools, a special educational needs school, the creation of two post-16 centres and the replacement of two existing leisure centres.
As part of the agreement with Nottinghamshire County Council, over 100 tonnes of redundant furniture from the existing schools was shipped to schools in South Africa with the help of the Education For All Trust. Any furniture that was not donated was dismantled and recycled or used in energy recovery Catherine Kirk, Head Teacher of St Giles School said: “We’re absolutely delighted. It’s very much like the plan we put together. This school meets the needs of the children. The large majority of the children were saying ‘wow’ when they saw the school and staff are pleased - we’re very pleased with the amount of space we have.” |
