2007 – Birmingham City Council Built In Quality Awards – Hobmoor Primary School received an award in the Education category.

This project will provide one speciality college, one secondary school, nine primary schools and one early years centre to address the major structural deficiencies that currently exist. With all schools except for one located on the site of the existing school, construction works have had to be carefully planned and phased to ensure that the schools can operate safely and minimal disruption is caused to pupils and staff.

All the schools have been designed with the “flexible classroom” concept in mind meaning that standard classrooms can be altered to respond not only changes in the delivery of the national curriculum, but also to enable multiple uses of the same space.

Many energy saving features have been incorporated into the design of this project including:

• Heat recovery to mechanical ventilation systems
• Solar thermal collectors for domestic hot water services
• Building energy management systems
• Lighting control systems
• Ground source heat pumps
