Project: York College
Client: York College Value: £45.5m Contract: D&B Duration: 96 weeks
Since opening its doors in September 2007, the 13,000 students and 800 staff of York College have been enjoying the new state-of-the-art facilities. This ambitious project was designed to consolidate the existing college into a 29,000m² purpose-built, four-storey building. At the heart of the building is a full width, striking atrium that is accessible from all floors.
The building also has a theatre, training restaurant, hair and beauty spa, a 3G sports pitch, engineering and construction workshops, art and design studios, a nursery, a learning centre spanning across three floors and flexible classrooms which can be adjusted to suit the needs of the users. Mike Galloway, Principal of York College said “We are absolutely thrilled with our new college. Its impressive design and construction has provided great intrigue and excitement both regionally and nationally. The fact that the building has been handed over to us on time is testament to the very hard work put in by Balfour Beatty Construction, Bond Bryan architects and all the other contractors. Our thanks go to everyone involved in this mammoth building project.” |
