Project: Moorfields Eye Hospital
Client: Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust Value: £15m Contract: Procure 21 Duration: 91 weeks
February 2007 saw the opening of a world-class Children’s Eye Centre designed to provide an internationally accessible treatment, research and teaching facility.
Contracted through the government Procure 21 initiative, Balfour Beatty worked as main contractor for the construction of an approximately 4,000 m2, seven storey healthcare building including outpatient and day care areas, a paediatric research unit, waiting area, café and hostel accommodation for patients and their families. The design team, led by Penoyre and Prasad Architects, were tasked with creating an uplifting, child friendly design based around the ideas of space, light and vision. The building’s striking exterior is complimented by a practical and dynamic internal work space, providing staff and patients with a functional, uniquely designed hospital. |
