This project comprises of the construction of two new hospitals and will transform the healthcare services provided in the local areas.

In Salford, the existing hospital is being redeveloped and new buildings are being provided to include an education centre, an emergency department, an assessment unit, a critical care unit, a heart care unit and new renal and urology units.

Phase 1 of project, the car park, was successfully handed over in 2008 and the new education block was handed over in early 2009. The project is due for completion in June 2012.

The second part of the project is a combination of new build and refurbishment works to Tameside General Hospital and includes in-patient and outpatient accommodation, theatres, children’s facilities and a new facility for older people with mental health problems.

The Etherow Building, which provides care to elderly mental health patients, was handed over in September to a delighted client. Other works continue to progress well and the project is on target for completion in October 2010.
