Project:
New Victoria & Stobhill Hospitals Client: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Value: £180.0m Contract: PFI Duration: 24 months The hospitals have been designed to provide outpatient, day care and surgical appointments. The function of both hospitals is to provide high quality integrated ambulatory care services to the population of South and North Glasgow. The facilities available will include consultation, investigation, diagnosis, treatment and day surgical intervention. Internally, the building’s design emphasis has been on efficient clinical planning and the patient journey.
Both hospitals make extensive use of glazed atria, designed to maximize daylight penetration into the inner departments of the buildings, and these, together with the extensive external windows and light and modern decoration, combine to give the buildings an open and welcoming feel. The pleasant internal environment is considered conducive to successful treatment. Karen Connelly, NHSGGC Commissioning Manager for the New Victoria Hospital said “Throughout the construction process I was impressed by the professionalism, commitment and morale of the whole team as they delivered a magnificent new hospital for the patients and staff. Delivering both hospitals on time was a substantial achievement and enabled us to plan the transfer of the clinical services without trauma”.
